Companions, Representatives and Governing Bodies

The Foundation is carried by people who take responsibility for specific tasks.

The formal governing bodies of the Foundation are the Board of Trusties and the Supervisory Board.
Their members were appointed by the founder on the basis of trust.

Together with the "Companions", they form the supporting structure of the Foundation.
Not as a hierarchy — but as orientation and a sense of reliability.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees accompanies the development of the Foundation.
It ensures that the organisational and legal foundations remain stable.
It maintains an overview without defining the living processes themselves.
Its role is to safeguard the framework within which encounter can take place.

Friedrich Schenk – Austria
Chair

Friedrich Schenk is an environmental engineer. He works on
ecological development and the sustainable shaping of living environments.

In his private life, he is active in communal and creative contexts,
including choral work and writing.

His contribution lies in the connection between practical thinking and social attentiveness.
Motto: “Life is beautiful — let’s share it.”

Barbara Szegedi – Hungary

Barbara Szegedi works in the field of education with children and young people.

A key focus of her work is supporting young people in challenging life situations.

She contributes her experience particularly in questions of human development
and social responsibility.

Daniel Steinmacher – Hungary

Daniel Steinmacher has lived and worked for many years
in different European contexts. He focuses on questions of
communication, language, and collaboration.

Within the Board of Trustees, he connects organisational processes
with communicative attentiveness.
Motto: “Doing good consistently — where we are, right now.”

Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board accompanies the Foundation from a professional perspective.
Its members contribute experience from fields that are essential to the development of the place.
In particular where design, sound, and organisation intersect.

Dr.-Ing. Natalia Ivanova – Bulgaria

Building physicist specialising in room and building acoustics.
She works in research, teaching, and practical planning.

Her contribution lies in supporting the acoustic and spatial quality
of the emerging spaces of encounter.
Dušica Bijelić – Serbia / Germany

Opera singer with international stage experience.
Trained at music academies in Rome and Berlin.

She advises the Foundation in matters of music and performance.

Companions

Companions are not members of a system.

They are people
who, for a time, help carry the same space.

Some come for a short stretch.
Some remain longer.
Some return again.

Companions do not assume a role.

They take part through presence, attention, and their own doing.
Not as a function,
but as part of a shared walking-along.

Experience in the Background

All companions bring experiences from different areas of life and work.
Among them are leaders, trainers, entrepreneurs, award recipients,
and people with many years of professional experience.

Such abilities play no role in joining,
and they are not placed in the foreground here.

Yet they are present—
and can become visible when they are needed, for example if:

someone is planning a complex project
someone is considering a new professional path
a distinct talent begins to reveal itself.

Perhaps incidentally, in the midst of shared moment.
During a rehearsal. Or on a walk.

It shows itself. It opens. It flows.

The Origin of the Widukind Foundation

Sometimes we meet a person
who explains nothing —
and yet says much.
Their gaze. Their presence.
A quiet sense of naturalness.

Widukind Pesch
March 26, 2002 – September 29, 2022

Many who encountered him do not first recall words,
but something else:
calm, kindness, and
a simple joy in being alive.

Connecting.
Clarifying.
Expanding.

Perhaps, with the Widukind Foundation, a place is created
where people may encounter one another in a similar way again —
without roles, without expectations, with space for what
may arise in the moment of encounter.

On the founding of the Foundation, 2022
It was a longer journey.
Over several years, correspondence with the Hungarian authorities
was ongoing — particularly regarding the name “Widukind.”
At several points, it seemed the process would not continue.

Then, unexpectedly, a supportive lawyer invited us
to the final signing.
The appointment fell on March 26 — Widukind’s birthday.
This time, successfully.

Not a destination — a beginning.

May the name serve as a reminder
that a single person can touch the lives of many.
