Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Widukind Foundation?

The Foundation sees itself as a forum and a place for shared experience.

It encourages the joy of enabling
and of unfolding
what is already present.

To this end, it organizes encounter weeks and events
and is developing a place of encounter in Szakony, Hungary,
including
an event hall,
workshops,
a park,
an open-air stage,
a simple café
and modest accommodation.

Who can take part?

People of all backgrounds,
professions,
ages
and forms of expression
from around the world.

Anyone who would like to get to know our way of encounter
is warmly invited
to get in touch with us.

What does "the joy of enabling" mean?

It means
not wanting to produce everything oneself,
but creating conditions
in which ideas,
encounters
and people
can unfold
and reveal themselves.

Is the Foundation an artists' group?

No.
Music,
theatre,
dance
and the visual arts
all have their place here—
but so do conversation,
working together,
silence
and everyday life shared with others.

How is the Foundation financed, and who profits from it?

The Foundation is supported through donations,
concert income
and the proceeds of its publishing activities.

There are no membership fees.

All income is used
for the further development
and activities
of the Foundation.

No private withdrawals are made.

What does "uplifting" mean?

It does not mean
something inherently higher
or better.

It refers to whatever makes
a shared space
more supportive,
clearer
or more spacious.

Why is the Foundation called "Widukind"?

The Foundation's original leader was Widukind Pesch, who died at the age of twenty.

He was a remakably gracious host.

His openness toward people
and to life's essentials
felt natural
and deeply familiar.

His name reminds us
of this way of meeting one another.

Is the Foundation spiritual?
Do I have to believe in something to take part?

People have always understood
their experiences
and what is most essential to them
in different ways.

The Foundation does not choose
between these interpretations.

It neither asks
how someone names
what is essential,
nor does it favour
any particular worldview
or interpretation.

Its aim is to contribute
to human fellowship
and to natural unfolding.

For this reason,
it keeps open the conditions
in which experiences may arise
that people may personally experience as
clarifying,
supportive,
expansive,
deeply connecting
or essential.

This allows works and contributions
from different backgrounds
to stand side by side
in our encounters and events.

Not because everything is the same,
or because differences must disappear,
but because
their separating character
can be lost.

The Foundation gives its attention
to human togetherness
and to the space
that can arise between people
when they meet one another
with attentiveness,
appreciation
and the joy
of making one another's unfolding possible.
