Building Project
The center of the Widukind Foundation, “The Encounter,” is located in Szakony, Hungary, close to the Austrian border.
What exactly does “The Encounter” consist of? The plan envisions an oval wooden building complex with green roofs on multiple levels.
Within it are various spaces dedicated to attention, inspiration, and quiet reflection. It is a place for exhibiting, presenting, and discovering; for crafting and practicing; for understanding and forgetting through childlike play.
Inviting multi-purpose rooms with large windows and doors open out into a park that encourages deep breathing—an oasis with flowers, herb gardens, and fruit trees.
A small open-air stage and a pond with a wooden bridge are, of course, part of the complex as well.
The bridge leads from the parking area to the forecourt with its large glass façade. Behind it, a bright foyer with a bistro serves as a welcoming threshold between indoors and outdoors—a cozy place for meeting and getting to know one another. In summer, homemade ice cream is served under sun umbrellas.
The foyer also houses a memorial space for our dear Widukind. His urn and a portrait will be lovingly integrated into a wall niche there.
Adjacent to this area, large entrance doors open into the “Widukind Hall,” the heart of the Encounter:
a celebration and concert hall seating 300 people, expandable by two balconies with 50 seats each.
The stage offers 100 m² of space for orchestra, theatre, and ballet.
The entire hall is designed to function as a finely tuned acoustic recording studio.
Planning of the entire Encounter campus is currently underway.
